My dragon, Little One, has a very distinctive look when she wants me to take her out of the tank. Granted she would always like to be out of the tank, there are certain, definite ways she indicates that she would like to come out at certain times. Particularly weekend mornings.
Does your dragon tell you when he/she wants out?

Hi Vaughne!
When my big guy, Scooter, was a youngster, he would stand on his hind legs with his hands against the glass and stare out at me. Now that he's older (almost 9 yrs) he walks/runs back and forth when he wants out.
When Peanut wanted to come out, she had a certain look in her eyes which I knew meant "take me out!" Before she was sick, she was always awake with the first light of day and watching me. A sure sign to take her out and get into bed with me so she could suck up my body heat! I REALLY miss that!
I know just what you mean. Weekend mornings were snuggle and body heat suck up time! |

My girl, Erdinger, scratches the glass when she wants to come out.
Weekend mornings are usual. And often when she sees my bunny rabbit running outside. I think it may be jealousy. |

Hiya Vaughne!
Ours will glass dance too. A couple of them over the years have had other ways to tell us they wanted out to run. Washee, of the infamous "Washee and the Love Sock" post, would follow us in his tank. He'd follow alongside you as far as he could...looking adorable. He would also stand against the glass, as tall as he could, and gently tap his chin on it. This was an "instant out" and he knew it.
Rupert would get on the highest thing in his tank and turn his beard and entire stomach black as night. That was his "GET ME OUT OF HERE" look. After an hour or two we'd set him on the cabinet next to his tank. If he wanted back in, he'd glass dance like a june bug on speed. Otherwise, he was ready for more play time. We've had others that used the glass dance to express boredom, and a need for play.
We had one dragon, the legendary Kiwi, who was a genetic dwarf, that had enough attitude for three dragons. One year Shanna brought a bowl of silkworms with her when she came to visit. This would be the first time our dragons ever saw silkies. I was holding Kiwi and 3 feet away, on the other side of the big coffee table sat Shanna and that fascinating bowl of silkworms. But Shanna was going to offer some to Washee first. So Lisa set Washee down on the table and Shanna put a few silkies in front of him. All of a sudden, Kiwi launched herself into the air and NO KIDDING flew three feet, landed on the table, went into a slide under Washee's chin, scooping up the worms as she slid by. First we were shocked and then the three of laughed till we nearly cried. The look on Washee's face was priceless. Non-Aussie keepers had read for years that dragons were capable of great leaps, and we had it confirmed in a way we'll never forget!
Sorry, I digressed a bit. The reason I brought up Ms. Kiwi was to illustrate her unique way of asking to come out to play. She would get on top a wooden half-log and launch herself up, knocking the screen top of the tank really hard. We'd get the little mischief maker out IMMEDIATELY before she hurt the scales on her head. Silly (and SMART) little dragon.

Frank often headbutts the glass if he wants to come out. If I don't get to him straight away he gets quite aggressive, black beard, the lot. But as soon as I open the door he calms down and just climbs onto my hand.
He used to do the whole glass dancing when he was a baby, but as soon as he reached adulthood he became bossy |

Thank you both!
I'll get some pictures shortly. I have been really busy lately, I'm snowed under with essays!
Frank is doing really well, I managed to get hold of some more YN today, so he's happy again digging in that. He's been on kitchen roll for the last few weeks because I've not been able to get any.
He came out of brumation last week. It's been really cold here, we've had an awful winter, so he was a bit late emerging this year. Last year, he was out before January was over with lol.
I'm going to get a thermostat and re-wire all the lights so next winter I'll just keep temps raised. I'm also looking at getting him a 3ft viv so then I can FINALLY take him home with me. He's been at my Mums for the last 2 years because my house is far too small and I've had no room for his viv. I'm just glad she only lives a 10 minute walk away! lol |
