Hello Tankers well just wanted to see what you all suggested. My brother and his family moved back here and they brought back my Pocke i used to have and gave them, do to the fact i couldn't keep it in the apartment that we live in right now. They decided that they had to move back and couldn't fit the tank and the dragon in their move back home. So told them go ahead and leave him at my mother's house and i would take care of him.
Well it's kinda like rescueing him from a had owner, he's not been taken care of and i didn't know this all ways going on. Until they moved back here, well he hasn't been on a light cycle at all no steady food supply, hasn't had a UVA/UVB bult on him at all. No Cal or Vit. supplement im worried he's to far gone to save, the tank i gave them has almost no screen left on top. I have a Vision tank that i could use but of course it's closed sided only the front is glass. As all remember i got him when he was just a baby the wife and i did, i showed them everything they had to do and can't believe they would do this to a family member that has been in the family for almost 10 years. What do you all suggest i do, don't wanna Vet bill that i can't handle to even see what's inside him, im sure he has parasites and all that fun stuff. We have monthly inspections so we would have to hide his tank when they come in. So im asking what in the World am i going to do.
Thank you tankers

Can he walk? Do you see any trembling of the hands or feet? That's usually an indicator of low Ca.
If he's been without UVB for that long, he's going to need a Mega-Ray bulb from here:
http://reptileuv.com/megaray-sb-100-watt-self-ballasted-flood-uvb-lamp.php
I use those on all my dragons, and they double as heat lamps. It's got way more UVB than a strip bulb.
I would also recommend CALCIUM GLUBIONATE syrup, also called Calcionate, which you can get from CVS (may need to special order). Give .1 ml per 100g of body weight daily, so a 300g dragon would get 0.3 ml. You can double the dose for the first week to get them back on their feet. It's much more easily absorbed than calcium carbonate.
I'd try to get a grip on the calcium issue first, assuming that's the biggest problem here. |

Hi Aaron...
OMG...what a mess!! Poor Pocke!!! That just makes us sick that he's been so neglected and abused. We agree with everything that Diane said...it's very important to get his calcium issues addressed. Since he's been so stressed by his cruel lack of decent care and human interaction, he, no doubt, will have parasites. But the calcium and the UVB, as well as cage temps, is a BIG deal right now. Parasites can wait.
As for the tank.....take the lid to your local hardware store. Talk to one of the staff people, and tell them that you want to find a way to repair or replace that metal screen. See what ideas they have. While you're repairing the lid, Pocke can stay in the tank with glass only in front....that will be fine. NO SAND!!
Get that boy some decent food...greens, veggies, a bit of fruit here and there along with the usual worms.
Hopefully, if you do all the above, you can avoid a vet bill. You could get lucky. And SHAME ON the family members that put a helpless animal through such hell.
Keep us updated when you can,
Lisa and Annie |

Hi Aaron,
Go to the hardware store and ask for "Hardware Cloth". It's a wire mesh screen that is heavier than window screen. Many places sell it by the foot. I've seen it in two and three foot widths. It is heavy enough that you can put things on it and it will hold them. Not really heavy stuff, but will hold lights, though recommend they be suspended an inch or so above. The larger the opening the heaver the gauge of the wire.
The above info from Diane and Lisa and Annie sounds like a great start to get Pocke back on track! |

I can't keep him at my mothers very long and i can't bring him here at the apartment so i don't know what to do. |

Hi Aaron...
Thank you SO much for the update on Pocke. We're still horrified at the condition you found him in.
OK, we understand your problem. We used to live in an apartment that didn't allow animals. We were busy rescuing crittens then too. Over the years we had ferrets, turtles, a parrot, dogs, cats, fish, frogs, a couple of snakes, and we forget what else. Good thing nobody from the office dropped in for coffee.
If you are unable to keep Pocke at your Mom's or at the apartment, then it's time to get on the phone. Call the nearest herp club or society. There's one in every state. SOMEBODY will want Pocke. If he was our dragon, we'd rather give him to a herp lover that would take good care of him, then to sell him to some bozo that knows nothing about dragonkeeping, and has no interest in learning.
We know how hard it is to part with any critter that you love, but sometimes, you have to do it for the animal's sake.
Post again Aaron with an update. By the way, do you have any herp loving friends that would want a wonderful dragon?
As ever,
Annie and Lisa |
